Instructions for Authors

This journal uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (previously Manuscript Central) to peer review manuscript submissions. Please read the guide for ScholarOne authors before making a submission. Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.
Manuscripts. The editors will consider the following manuscripts for publication:
Research: Qualitative and quantitative manuscripts presenting original research on practices or policies related to teacher education, teacher preparation, or professional development.
Promising Practice: Original presentations of institutional policies or instructional practices that provide meaningful advancements in the processes of preparing future teachers or promoting the professional development of practicing teachers. These brief articles must go beyond simply describing a practice in which the authors have engaged. They must have a theoretical basis and provide empirical support that the practice is connected to desired outcomes.
Open Forum: Contributions using innovative formats to present issues that are important to teacher education will be considered. Contact one of the editors with your proposed contributions for guidance.
Submission of Manuscripts. Manuscripts are now accepted only through our online system. To have a manuscript considered for publication, please follow the following instructions:
1. In your browser, go to the The Teacher Educator site at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/utte
2. You will be sent an e-mail and password and prompted to visit the login page.
3. Once logged in with your e-mail address and password you may submit your manuscript by clicking the “Add Manuscript” link and following the directions.
Because the manuscript will be sent for a blind review, no identifying information (i.e., university, school, and author names) should be included within the manuscript. Also, given the digital reviewing process in place, please ensure that under “document properties” your identifying information has been removed.
References and Style. All manuscripts, including text, quotations, figures, tables, and references, must meet the style requirements of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Sixth Edition, 2010), and should not exceed 30 total pages. Manuscripts that do not conform to these requirements will be returned to the authors and will delay review. Only under rare occasions will we accept appendices; authors should make every attempt to incorporate salient features of the material into the text.
Note: If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the editors reserve the right to make minor editorial changes that do not significantly alter the substance of the text.
Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
– 300 dpi or higher
– Sized to fit on journal page
– EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
– Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
As an author, you are required to secure permission if you want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as “derivative reproduction” (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source).
Color Reproduction. Color art will be reproduced in color in the online publication at no additional cost to the author. Color illustrations will also be considered for print publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Please note that color reprints can only be ordered if print reproduction costs are paid.
Print Rates: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color. Art not supplied at a minimum of 300 dpi will not be considered for print.
Tables and Figures. Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, doublespaced, on a separate sheet.
Proofs and Reprints. Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' CATS system. They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
